Osaka Castle

I have not updated and have left my web site as it was for a long period of time, but I’d like to restart renewing it.

At the first time of the renewal, I put photos of the castle tower of Osaka Castle.

It’s big! It has an imposing appearance.

In the place where Osaka Castle stands, there was originally a temple of the Buddhist Jodo Shinshu sect (Ishiyama Honganji temple), and Toyotomi Hideyoshi built a castle name Osaka Castle there after the temple was burned down.

However, Osaka castle, built by Hideyoshi, also came down in battles with Tokugawa Ieyasu.

The Tokugawa shogunate did not repair Hideyoshi’s castle. Instead, they cover the castle with earth (the height was from 1 to 10 meters), stacked stones on the earth, and built newly there castle on them.

So, Osaka castle, built by Hideyoshi, is still buried in the ground. (For example, we can see a stone wall, built by Hideyoshi, at 7 meters underground.)

The current castle tower that we see was rebuilt in 1931 referring to various original materials, and is made of reinforced concrete.

Please take a look at the pictures of the Osaka Castle tower in the four seasons.
