Toshodaiji Temple

Toshodaiji Temple was built in 759 as a training hall by Jianzhen who was a Buddhist priest, and Jianzhen lived in this temple in his last years. The principal image of this temple is Vairocana. This temple was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1998.

Vairocana ("Rushana-butu")

  • Main Hall. This was built in the late eighth century. National Treasure.
  • Lecture Hall. This was also built in the late eighth century. National Treasure.
