Stroll in Kobe (5) – Tor West

On smartphones, this page is best viewed in horizontal mode.

An area, bordered by Tor Road and Koikawasuji Road in the east and west direction and Hankyu Railway and Ikutashinmichi Road in the north and west direction, has come to get attention as a fashionable spot. The area is called “Tor West,” which originated from the position of the area, that is, the area is located at the west side of Tor Road. Tor Road has been a famous shopping road since long ago, and people have stylish and high society images of it. On the other hand, as for Tor West, people feel that it is somehow folksy and has a back-street atmosphere. In Tor West, there are unique boutiques, general stores, used closing shops, cafes, and restaurants. Small-scale shops of which the owners are young and their goods are not so expensive are lined along the streets. Almost all of the stores use the old buildings and only the interior is modified as the owner wishes, which may give us a welcoming feeling. In this area, roads are complicated, and so you may often lose your way. Even if you lose your way, however, you can instantly find a wide road. You can reach there in about 5 minutes on foot from Sannomiya Station or Motomachi Station, so I recommend you stroll there on your day off or in the intervals of your sightseeing, even if you don’t have specific purposes.

Well, I introduce you to Tor West in Kobe!
