Kamakura Daibutsu Den Kotoku-in. \u00a0The temple has a great statue of Buddha, which we usually called “The Great Buddha” in Kamakura.<\/p>\n

This is the “Nio-mon” gate, where two “Nio” statues are housed on the right and left sides. They are guardians, who drive enemies away from the temple.<\/p>\n

The statue on the right side is called “Agyo.” He\u00a0opens his\u00a0mouth, clearly expressing anger.<\/p>\n

The statue on the left side is called “Ungyo.” He closes his mouth, internalizing his anger.<\/p>\n

Going through the gate, there are many trees. \u00a0Among the trees, some tress were planted by royal family members from various countries.<\/p>\n

In the back garden, the Great Buddha is set against the background of \u00a0mountains. \u00a0How big he is!<\/p>\n

The height is 13.35 m (or 18.3 m including the pedestal); the weight is 121 tons (or 250 tons including the pedestal).<\/p>\n
